Home Sweet Apartment

TYPE TYPE CLICK CLICK
I have entered the twilight zone, I’m a college grad….gulp. Like many people my age I have discovered how different life post-college is. First professional job, single apartment living, yata yata yata. Quarter life crisis is a very real ailment and is currently very much kicking my ass. However there is an unforeseen phenomenon of this new lifestyle. I have free time! Now, I have noticed that time goes fast and I would much prefer to live in a 48 hour a day world. That is, a 48 hour world with 9 hour work days. The point is, after working 30 hours a week on top of being a full time student with homework I had very little me time. These days I’ve been keeping myself busy.

My apartment was the first on my list. My style is a little corky and never really meshed with any of my roommate’s ideas of what an apartment should look like. The past three years I’ve horded all my treasures in my room. At one point I had so much furniture in my bedroom I only had a 2 foot wide pathway from my bed to my closet. So of course a designer I was super ecstatic to express my individual style. Here’s what it looks like so far. It’s defiantly a work in progress, but exciting none the less.

My apartment building is way cute, English Tudor style. I love my arched doorways and plaster walls. However I’m still trying to figure out the best way to hang my pictures up. Old theater seats and 60’s coffee table with chairs that roll out (some of the legs need to be repaired but that’s a project for another time). All scored from Craig’s List.

The fireplace is what sold me. I adore that it’s set at an angle, the detailing on the mantel, and the Tudor county scene tiles.

Close up of the mantel and some of my artwork

Like I said it’s a work in progress. I have two office niches set up in my living room; this is the one where I pay the bills, aka “The orange corner”. The desk I got from…you guessed it, Craig’s list. The chair is Eames (for which I have a love affair). I scored two of them from the first coffee house I worked after it went out of business. The owner gave them to me as a parting gift. Thanks Linda, you rock!

Music chest next to the orange corner I got from an estate sale. The mustard phone is from my favorite community thrift store in Nobel Manor and the cat is from the pennysaver (true story).

I may need another bookshelf. This one is from construction junction. http://constructionjunction.org/

Typewriter I received from a family friend (I’m a greedy bitch I have two…ssshhhh), old sewing table adopted from a former roommate, apartment sign I inherited from my sister upon buying her first home (maybe someday I can pay it forward), and the basked chock full of unopened mail I got at Ikea.

That about sums it up, stay tuned for kitchen photos.
